Women’s College Sports in the Roanoke Area This Weekend

The ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championships will be played at Virginia Tech on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday.

Roanoke College is hosting the ODAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament. The Quarterfinals were played yesterday. The Semifinals will be played Saturday, and the championship is scheduled for Sunday.

Norfolk Southern Frieght Volume Drops Dramatically

The morning after Norfolk Southern Corp. said its first-quarter profit fell 39 percent, company executives said the railroad hasn’t faced an economic slowdown like this in any of their memories.

The plunge in freight volume is about double the drop seen at the peak of the 1981-82 recession.

Martinsville call center to close, eliminating 279 jobs

GSI Commerce is closing its call center in Martinsville. 279 people will lose their jobs.
