Shrimp Etouffee

I followed a recipe from Nola Cuisine and made Shrimp Etouffee this evening.  The results were very good, and my older son even asked for seconds.

Salmon Cakes

I made salmon cakes for lunch today, and they were delicious.  The only change I made to the recipe was to use Zatarain’s Creole mustard instead of Dijon mustard, because I didn’t have any Dijon mustard.  I ate the salmon cakes with the jalapeño mayonnaise I made yesterday, and they were the best salmon cakes [...]

Supper Yesterday, 1/7/2012

For supper yesterday, I made: Fried Fish with Pickled Jalapeño Mayonnaise Oven-Fried Onion Rings I made a mistake while making the fried fish – I used the cracker/chip coating for the oven rings instead of breadcrumbs.  The mistake certainly did not hurt the flavor.  The boys and I loved it.

The Ridgewood Farms Kroger in Salem had kids Disney Gummies vitamins on sale for buy 1 get 1 free. I bought 2, but I didn’t bother checking the expiration dates before dropping them into the shopping cart. After I got home, my wife opened one of the bottles and noticed that the vitamins were all [...]

I walked out of the house to meet my son at the bus stop this afternoon, and I noticed a car parked in the grass in front of my house.  There were 2 people in the car, and they were still sitting in the car when I got back from the bus stop. I sent [...]

The distribution is different from where we spent our money last year.

I Died 25 Years Ago Today

On Saturday, January 7, 1984, I finished working a night shift at the 750th Military Intelligence Group on Security Hill at Misawa Air Base. I wasn’t feeling well that morning and asked to be excused from physical training (P.T.), but I was told no. While participating in P.T., I had a seizure and passed out. [...]

Happy Birthday B.

Yesterday was my middle child’s birthday, and we took him out to eat -he picked Red Lobster-, bought him some presents, and he played and skated at the skating rink while my other son attended a birthday party there. Last night, he gave me a big hug and said, “Thanks Dad. This was the best [...]

Slacker Moms urge other mothers to chill

There’s a backlash brewing among the Other Mothers. They, too, love their kids and want to raise them right, but unlike the much-hyped Alpha Moms, whose desire to be The Perfect Mom sometimes leads them to excess in the name of excellence, the laid-back mothers are gaining ground. The so-called Alpha Mom is a marketing [...]
