Which Alpine Head Units Work With the KCA-420I Alpine to Ipod Interface?
Which Alpine headunits are compatible with the KCA-420I Alpine-to-Ipod interface?
Alpine states on page 6 of the KCA-420I’s owner’s manual that it will only work with 2004 and up AI-NET compatible head units. Here’s a list of the head units Alpine says are compatible:
- CDA-9820XM
- CDA-9825
- CDA-9826
- CDA-9827
- CDA-9830
- CDA-9831
- CDA-9833
- CDA-9835
- CVA-1004
- IVA-D300
- IVA-D901
There’s a thread on iPodLounge where people who have installed the KCA-420I discuss their experiences. Some of them got the KCA-420I to work with older AI-NET head units that are not in Alpine’s list. Some of the head units that worked:

No, the CDM-9821 is not compatible with the KCA-420I ipod interface. The CDM-9821 is a controller for the M-Bus changers, but the KCA-420I requires a receiver that will control AI-Net changers.

The CDA-9813 is compatible as well, FYI. (I have that setup myself.)
