Mom Always Said Safety First Near Ice Lakes

Frozen Lake Safety (willistonherald.com)

Before you run across a frozen body of water, check to make sure there is at least “4 inches of solid clear ice” before crossing. Go with a buddy, take ice picks to pull yourself out and, don’t drive your F-150 on the ice.

If you’re in Virginia, the ice probably isn’t at least 4 inches thick even in the middle of winter, so stay off the ice.
