Congress has designated $55 million to upgrade the aging generators and turbines at Kerr Lake, which is located in Virginia and North Carolina. The 5.6-billion gallons of water per day that go through the improved system will contain higher levels of dissolved oxygen. This is expected to increase the comfort zone of black bass, striped bass, catfish, walleye and other species that thrive in the tailrace and the water below it.
